About David Arias
B. Des, Cert. Interdisciplinary Design

David is an independent graphic design professional based in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

As a freelancing professional, David wears many hats, and is involved in numerous roles such as: design management, brand consulting, marketing, and idea creation. He is, ultimately, a creative problem solver, who carefully combines design aesthetics and marketing ideas, resulting in well formulated design solutions. In the past, David has worked with clients abroad, including clients from Japan, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, France, United States, and Canada.

David has an innate entrepreneurial spirit, which sets him apart, and has become an asset to his studio and the work he produces. Through design, David aims to encourage and challenge new and existing clients to push the envelope of what is expected, and go beyond their imagined plan and scope of ideas and opportunities—to stand out and strive for more—a better solution.

Vancouver Design Meetup →
Hosted by Dana & Matt, I was invited as a guest speaker in a two part topic on Personal Branding. My focus was to speak about the practical look at the personal brand and its role through my professional journey and experience as an independent designer.

Hosted by the GDC, I was invited to participate in a panel consisting of various design practitioners. The workshop offered recent grads the time to ask industry-related questions, and an insight into the design profession and its practice.

David was invited by the faculty of the GDMA program at Kwantlen to be part of their speaker-series and talk to students about the design profession from a freelancing perspective and how marketing fits into the equation.

Volunteered in various tasks for Western Canada's largest art show event, hosted in one night.

Volunteering judge and web curator. David's envolvement here is on-going; judging web design (css) entries and evaluating each entry under the criteria of design, creativity, content, and usability.

Media coverage for TAXI, a media sponsor for the GDC (Society of Graphic Designers of Canada). David's roles include to attend some of the majors and sponsored GDC hosted events, photograph, document them, and write an article about it.

Invited as one of six artists for Bobby Paul's first art auction event. Each artist was given a blank skateboard to create an art piece for a good cause. All money raised was donated to Share, a charity company that helped put food on the table to those who are less fortunate.

Langara College →
On several occasions David has been invited by the faculty of a 2-year Design + Display program at Langara to speak to students about portfolios, their practicum, and the design profession from a freelancing perspective.

Graphex 2008 →
Volunteer work for the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC) in the biannual design awards event, Graphex. David's role were to assist in the organization of Canadian Design entries during the judging process.
